Q: Is meal allowance subject to monthly tax deduction (MTD)?

A: MTD is to be deducted from the employee’s taxable remuneration only. Meal allowance could be exempted form tax if the conditions are fulfilled. All the tax exempted allowances, benefit-in-kind and perquisites shall be excluded from the calculation of MTD.
