Q: My wife was diagnosed with leukemia and the treatment cost amounted to RM14,000. She paid RM10,000 and I paid the remaining RM4,000, with separate receipts issued in our names. Are we both eligible to claim tax relief for the medical expenses incurred?

A: Yes, your wife is allowed to claim tax relief for the RM10,000 medical expenses incurred for her serious disease, while you can also claim tax relief for the remaining RM4,000 medical expenses that you have incurred for your wife’s serious disease.
